Naturally Beautiful You - Skin Care

Last month we looked at the various face types: Normal, Oily, Dry and Sensitive, explaining their characteristics and how to care for them. This month we look at the different skin types.

Basically, there are the same grouping for the face as there are for the skin, so you may have normal, oily, dry or sensitive skin. And it is possible to have a different skin type from your face: for instance you have a very oil face while the rest of your skin is dry or normal. If this is the case, you may find yourself having different skincare routines for your skin and for your face.

Ideally, you SHOULD have a different face care regime from the rest of your skin. Read all about caring for your face here.
So lets talk about the care for the rest of your body for each skin type:

Normal Skin Type

This is considered the best skin type, because it requires little effort to care for it. Normal skin produces the right amount of oil to keep it from getting dry as well as too oily. If this is your skin type then you can use almost any skincare product that’s made for any skin type, just don’t over-do it.

Use the basic skincare routine -
  • Bathe with good soap to keep your skin clean - our Natural Handcrafted Soap bars
  • Apply a good moisturiser to keep your skin hydrated - African Gold or Butter Supreme
  • Eat lots of fruits and vegetables, drink lots of water to keep healthy generally

Oily Skin Type

This skin produces more oil than it actually needs, making the skin shiny, trapping more dirt and bacteria which can cause skin irritation and blemishes, and blocking the pores which prevent the skin from breathing. If you have oily skin the use skincare products that are made for oily skin but avoid products that are made to dry the skin - the moment this skin type feels it is getting dry it will begin to produce even more oil to replace what is lost - just try to maintain a balance

Use this skincare routine -
  • Bathe with soap that has a little bit of oils to keep your skin clean but not dry - our Natural Handcrafted Soap bars
  • Avoid long hot baths - this dries out your skin
  • Apply a light moisturiser after a bath to prevent oil production by your skin - our African Gold
  • Eat lots of fruits and vegetables, drink lots of water to keep healthy generally

Dry Skin Type

This skin type doesn’t produce enough oil that it needs, making the skin rough and dry, tight and itchy which can cause some cracking or irritation. If dry skin is what you have then use skincare products that are made for your skin type and avoid products that can dry the skin further - products with alcohol are no-no!

Use this skincare routine for dry skin -
  • Bathe with a moisturising soap that adds a little oil to the skin while you wash - our Natural Handcrafted Honey Soap bars
  • Avoid long hot baths - this dries out your skin even more
  • Apply a deep (water-based) moisturiser after a bath to add water and oil inside the skin - our Moringa Baobab Creme Butter
  • Apply an oil-based moisturiser after the lotion/creme to seal in the moisture and protect the surface of the skin
  • Eat lots of fruits and vegetables, drink lots of water to keep healthy generally
Remember that there is Only One You, use Only The Best - Adonmu - Africa's Best Crafter.
