Dandruff...:::

Sebhorrea is a skin disease. It is a type of skin eczema and can occur in any of the oil-producing parts of the body; the scalp, ears, face, chest and folds of the skin. When it is affecting the scalp then it is called Dandruff. Dandruff looks like thick flaky scales that may not even be itchy sometimes.

The actual cause of Dandruff is unknown, however there is a certain yeast infection known to play a part in causing it. However, Dandruff in itself is not a yeast infection.

Fighting Dandruff:

To get rid of dandruff, you need to fight the inflammation on the scalp, either directly with hair products that contain a chemical called cortisone, or by reducing the amount of yeast building up on the scaly areas to add to the problem.

So, if you have Dandruff issues you should keep these in mind:
1. Moisturinzing the area does not cure it, it only smothens out the scales, but makes the plaques look redder.
2. Shampoo does not cause Dandruff, however there are some types of shampoos that can be of help (We will cover that later on)
3. Honestly, there is no 'Right' Shampoo or Conditioner, you do not need to keep changing hair care products. One only needs to take note of how often he/she washes the hair and scalp. And do not worry that too much shampooing will "dry out the scalp", this does not cause Dandruff either.

4. Use of Shampoo and Creams can help combat Dandruff.

You can either use these products everyday, or once a week, it all depends on how severe the case is.

For your choice of hair cream, look for cortisone cream, or antifungal cream: Cortisone creams help reduce inflamation and it is preferred that you apply it on damp hair, shortly after shampooing. Antifungal creams help reduce the number of yeast organisms living on the skin.

Look out for shampoos with the following ingredients:
tar, salicylic acid, zinc pyrithione, selenium sulfide and ketoconazole. You can get a shampoo that has all or some of these.

When you try this your Dandruff should reduce or go away completely. Sadly though, they will eventually come back if you stop for a while.

With all said about Dandruff, you need to know that sometimes we mistake some other thing for Dandruff.

Sometimes we see dried flaks on our scalp, or white specks on our clothes. And some people do not like to wash their hair because they believe that too much washing will dry out their scalp. But this is not the case, and scales from unwashed hair can accumulate and appear like excessive Dandruff.

In addition, the scalp is full of follicles that produce a lot of oil, so having dry scalp is actually very rare...:::
