Foundation...:::

Foundation is made to create an even skin tone, and to smoothen the texture of the skin to create a flawless finish. It can give a light, medium or full coverage, however for discoloration, blemishes, dark rings around the eyes, you may need to use a concealer before applying your foundation.

Foundation also acts as a base for other makeup products you may use, like eyeshadow, lipstick, blusher and so on. In fact these products are not to be used on skin that has no foundation on! This is simply because using them on a 'naked skin' may make blemishes and other skin problems more conspicuous, and some of them do not last as long as they would have if you use them on foundation.

So how do you choose your foundation?

First of all you need and "exact match" and not a "close match", meaning that it should appear invisible. Apply about 3 shades and blend in, the correct one should disappear. Look at the image, which shade do you think fits this model? To get it right, squint and see which one blends into the skin.

There is a wide range of foundation products available; different textures from water-based, oil-based, to oil-free, whereas the consistency and coverage they provide differ. However, there are 3 forms foundation usually comes in: Liquid, Cream or Powder.

Liquid Foundation:

This provides light to medium coverage, this however depends on how much you apply on your face and how thick it is.
It is the best foundation for normal skin as it is usually water-based. It feels light on the skin and finding the shade for your skin is easiest with this form of foundation.
An example of this product is Sleek Makeup's "New Skin Revive".

Cream Foundation:

This is like a cream that feels slightly dry to the touch, and provides medium to heavy coverage. This form of foundation is more suitable for people with dry skin, but for those with extra-dry skin, use one that is oil-based to help lock moisture in. However, older people should avoid cream foundation that provides heavy coverage.
Examples of this product is "Cream to Powder" by Sleek Makeup and Zaron Makeup.

Powder Foundation:This is a newer form of foundation and is designed for those with little time to spend making up. It is simply a combination of powder and foundation.
One of such is Sleek Makeup's "Superior Cover Powder".

Things to Note about Foundation:

  • Make sure you test out the shade of any foundation before you buy it.
  • If you get the shade that is an "exact match" to your skin, it will not look unnatural on you.
  • Do not mix foundation of different brands.
  • Using good makeup sponges like wedges will make application easier and smoother.
