Essential Oils are extracted from plants; the leaves, flowers, stem, bark, roots or peel. These oils capture the scent and flavor, known as "the essence", of the plant. They are obtained using either steam distillation (using steam and/or water) or cold-pressing with a machine. They have been used for thousands of years to make cosmetics, medicine, perfume and more recently, aromatherapy products. Each essential oil contains various compounds with unique qualities. You may use them aromatically (by inhaling through the nose or mouth) or topically (rubbing into the skin). It is believed that inhaling the aroma from essential oils stimulates an area of the brain which controls emotion, sense of smell and long term memory. This also affects some functions like breathing, heart rate and blood pressure.
